UK trains dogs to detect asymptomatic coronavirus carriers

Could screen 250 people an hourCan already sniff out potential diseases like cancer and malaria

UK is in the process of teaching dogs to ‘sniff’ out coronavirus signs before they appear in humans.

According to the London Mail, trials will begin early to see if the novel plays out.

The UK government is supporting the landmark trials to the tune of £500,000 under its funding of vital research into early methods of detecting the virus.

If successful, the dogs could be used to sniff out malaria and cancer

Through its sponsorship of critical work into early methods for identifying the virus, the UK Government is sponsoring pioneering trials to the tune of £ 500,000.

Now they will be intensively trained to spot Covid-19 before symptoms appear.

They will be educated using samples of people infected with coronavirus and uninfected people, since certain respiratory diseases are known to alter body odour.

Research has revealed that the dogs can detect the odor of illness at the equivalent dilution of one teaspoon of sugar in an amazing two water swimming pools of Olympic size.

Researchers at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will perform the first phase of the trials in partnership with the charity Medical Detection Dogs (MDD) and the University of Durham.
