Adrian Mariappa, the defender of England and Watford, was revealed as the player who contracted Coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the Hornets reported that one player and two staff members were among six top-flyers in England who tested positive for Covid-19.

The center-half 33-year-old has now revealed that during the lockdown he contracted the virus but still has to figure out how he got it after ‘nearly leaving the house.’

I’ve been scratching my head since I got my positive result on Tuesday to try to find out how I might get coronavirus

‘My lifestyle is very quiet, so I really don’t know how I got it, certainly no parties or going out or anything. Like other people, we have had more food and stuff deliveries, so maybe that’s one way, and my wife has been to the store a number of times.

‘The club doctor called me to tell me and, to be honest, I asked if it could be 100 % accurate or if my results might have been muddled up. Perhaps if I had shown any symptoms then that might have made sense.

‘But it hadn’t added up in my head.’

It’s quite frightening how you can feel absolutely fine and haven’t really left the house, and still get the virus. If it wasn’t for the fact that I had gone back to training and had this test, then I wouldn’t have found out I had the virus, and I’d just get things going as normal. That’s a quite strange thought, obviously.’

Mariappa, who was informed on Tuesday of his positive test, will now isolate herself for a week before taking a new test.
