The 2017 PGA Championship was hosted by Quail Hollow when a 24-year-old Justin Thomas beat Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen and Patrick Reed in two shots to win his first major championship.

PGA officials raved about the event in 2017 and strongly suggested at the time they’d like to see the PGA Championship return to Charlotte due to the high numbers of competitors.

Designed by noted golf course architect George Cobb, Quail Hollow opened in 1961.It’ll become the first course to host several PGA Championships in North Carolina.

Brooks Koepka is the two-time defending champion after winning in Farmingdale, New York, last May, at Bethpage Black.This year’s PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco was rescheduled for Aug. 3-9 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
