Why Aina Dumped England For Nigeria

Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, admits his slim chances of an English national team call-up, Three Lions, prompted him to move to Nigeria

Aina is among Nigerian descent’s few foreign players committing their international future to the West African country.

“England never offered me an chance to play for the senior team, that is the difference. Nigeria offered me the opportunity to play for their senior team, “Aina told the Super Eagles Media Team in an Instagram Live chat.

โ€œI probably would have made it there at some point but Nigeria told me I can make it here now, it was a no-brainer.โ€

Another foreign import to turn international allegiance to Nigeria is Liverpool-owned midfielder Ovie Ejaria, who, like the former Chelsea star, was born in London.

Ejaria ‘s turn obviously has the approval of Aina.

“Yeah, if you have the heart, and you should be invited from Nigeria to play for Nigeria, nobody should feel like they’re being pushed aside.”

In the Super Eagles training sessions the defender selected Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze as his toughest opponent.

“I ‘d say Samuel Chukwueze, even in training he is a tricky player, he’s business-minded.”
